Race's 1st Triathlon

Today was a fun day. Race did his very 1st triathlon. A couple weeks ago I asked him if he wanted to try one. He said sure. I asked him if he knew what a triathlon was and he just rolled his eyes at me. He said you swim, bike, and run. This was a great 1st time tri for him. He did a 25M swim, a 1.2mile bike, and a 400yd. run. I originally thought that it was in September but then realized it was July. It was so fun. We had to wake up at 3:45 to leave at 4:15 this morning. That was very early. Fortunately, Trent stayed the night at Scott and Kristens and Kali spent the night at Derek and Heathers. THANKS! That was so nice to only have to wake up 2 kids this morning. Race popped right up and was so excited. He didnt race until about 7:45 so we did quite a bit of sitting. When it was time he got all ready. He was so serious. He was all business. He did a great swim, he did freestyle the entire way. He passed one person in the water. He did great. Then he took off like he knew what he was doing, and went straight for his bike. Ricky followed to help him tie his shoes and get his helmet on. While they were in the transition area Ricky asked Race if he had fun in the swim and he replied with, Dad hurry up! It was so funny. He was so serious and there was no messing around. He took off on his bike and when he would pass us he didnt even look at us. I was laughing because it was just so cute. I really didnt think he would be that serious. He came back from his ride and racked his bike and took off running. He ended the race with a great a finish. It took him a whole 13:05 minutes. He got 1st place in his age group. He did great! We were so proud of him. He had so much fun.
My friend Jenn Schlegel also was there doing her 1st tri as well. She did great. I think she had fun. I will attach a few pics from today.

finally

we finally got some rain today. the second the kids saw it was raining the clothes went off and they went running.

weekend

friday night was the swim team party. we had pizza and the kids got their awards. we picked up 30 pizzas. holy cow i didnt realize how many pizzas that was. the kids had a blast.
saturday night we had a church party. it was with the stake. it was a pioneer celebration. with my new calling at church my committee was in charge of rolls, butter, water and ice for 600 people. we were there quite early to start filling cups. it was really fun though. the singles ward did a little program called pioneers meet rock n roll. it was funny. tysons age is not so fun. he just doesnt sit at all. he is constantly wanting to run around.
last night we had my brother bobby and mary over for dinner and their family. my parents came too. this pic is of mary being so silly. when mary was opening her presents race came in with his wallet and gave mary $1. that is a big deal for race because he is a saver. he is saving for a car, he says. it was so nice of him. today is marys birthday. that was fun too.
this week is way less busy than last week. today i am going to lunch with the girls in my family for marys birthday. that will be nice.

lately

lets see lately....
on monday the kids swam in the chamionship preliminaries. Race made it to the championships which were last night. you had to be the top 8 in your stroke and age group to make it. he made it in the breaststroke which he calls the frog. in the championships he got 6th. he did great. i was just hoping the whole time that he would keep the same stroke the entire way because quite a few kids were disqualified for not doing the stroke the correct way. he did great. it was so fun to watch. i was so proud of him. kali was in freestyle for the prelims but she got like 30th so she didnt make it to the finals. race also did backstroke for the prelims but he got 17th so didnt make it to the finals in that stroke. i am very relieved for swim team to be over. it was very time consuming and very HOT outside.

Ricky had his first meeting last night with is new calling at church. he said it is a good group. i have a stake activivity that i am helping prepare for sat. my committee is in charge of rolls, butter, water and ice for 600 people. it will be a fun party.

here are some pics from our last day at swim team. trent did a lap in the freestyle and backstroke during practice. he was so excited. he got 2 ribbons. any color he wanted.

BEACH

We had so much fun at the beach. The kids really enjoy this annual vacation. I do to, but this year was tougher with Tyson. He is just walking so he is still constantly falling down. We camp at the San Clemente State Campground. It is dirt. Needless to say Tyson was constantly dirty. He was dirty at camp and at the beach. I think next year we need a trailer. Our tent is very large, but it is still a tent. I didnt do very well on pics this year. I am of course bummed about that now. I really need to get a small camera that is easier to carry around. My big camera is too big to take everywhere. We had fun. The fourth of July was great. We went to a movie with the kids and then headed down to the beach where we stayed until the fireworks start at 9:00. It wasnt that cold this year so that always makes it easier. Everyday was typical. We had breakfast and headed down to the beach until about 5:00 then we came home got showers and made dinner then sat around the campfire. This year was a little crazy with the dinner situation. We did not combine with all the aunts and uncles. We did our own food with our family. we did go out a couple of times which was nice change. Here are a few pics. Race had his first ride on Papa's wave ski. He loved it.
