this weekend was nice. friday when i picked up the kids i headed to meet Ellen and Steve, Rickys parents, to do an exchange of kids. She was picking up Kali for a sleep over and I was picking up Kyle Conway for a sleep over here with Race and Trent. It was Kali, Ashton, and Kylies turn at Rickys parents house. Kali was so excited. They went to Barros pizza, the dollar store to spend $5 each, then home for a movie. Then on Saturday they went swimming in the spa, then swimming at Hollys, then back in the spa at Ellens. Then they watched Flicka. Ricky and I came home from getting Kyle and they wanted to go swimming. My kids really do go everyday. Then they played video games and watched a movie and ran around. We went and got Taco Bell for a healthy dinner. Saturday morning I went running yeah i did 1.5 without stopping. YEAH! The last time I tried to run I didnt make it one mile without stopping. then I came home and Ricky went running. of course he did 8 miles. this was his first time running since ironman and he said it was hard. no time to relax anymore for him. Then we just hung out and got ready for the day. of course i cleaned bathrooms and dusted while he was gone. Ricky had an orientation meeting at Good Sam Hospital so we decided that I would drop him off and I would drive around and wait for him. He heard in his class that the meeting was about 20 min. We were heading to Gilbert to exchange the kids back so we thought this would be the quickest way to get out there. Well I ended up sitting in the car for 2 hours and 20 min with 5 kids. How fun is that? evidently the lady in charge decided to take everyone on a tour of the ER. fun times. good thing there are movies in the car. We headed to gilbert and ended up going to rickys parents' ward party. it is really his brother and sisters ward too so it was a family party that we didnt supply the food for. amazing. it was fun. the kids were exhausted from such a long fun day.
New Temple
Yeah, I heard the news yesterday. There are going to be two new temples built in AZ. One in Gila Valley and the other in Gilbert. I am way excited of course because that is where Ricky and I will plant our family in about a year. I will be literally about 10 minutes from a temple. how exciting is that? i am also excited to watch the process of it being built. way cool.

Go Ricky!
Last night was Rickys EMT Mid-Term. He was so nervous. He says the tests are so hard. The instructor makes the test so that they are equivalent to the National Registry test that he will have to take to get his certificate. He said the tests are tricky. The answers will ALL be correct but you have to choose the best one. The mid-term covered everything they have learned up to this point, which is like 16 chapters. It was 150 scenario type questions. If you dont have an 80% in the class after taking the mid-term you are kicked out. Ricky got an 87% last night! YEAH Ricky! He got the highest score in the class. I am so proud of him especially when he has so many other things in his life to distract him.
Hanging Out
Here are some random pics of just hanging out. Tyson loves his turtle backpack. This is Tyson and Averi in the kitchen sink for their nightly bath. When Tyson broke his arm we gave him baths in the sink so that he could rest his arm on the counter. Now he loves it. It is so much easier than the bath tub. We decided to let Averi join the fun too. Speaking of Averi she seriously rolls everywhere now. Yesterday I put her on her play gym thing and then I came back and she was about 6 feet away. He rolls and turns around in circless on her belly. she is so cute to watch.

where is the camera?
so yesterday was one of those days where i stop and ask, "where is the candid camera". everything was going wrong. the day started with ricky waking up with nausea and diarrhea. that really throws the morning off because we tag team the morning to-do's. he normally does breakfast while i pack backpacks and get kids dressed and clean the house. i have a problem because when i leave the house in the morning i have to empty my garbages, unload the dishwasher and reload, make beds, and pick up the rest of the house. the reason it is a problem is because half of the time i dont have the time to be doing all that. anyways, ricky being sick really threw me off. he ended up making it out to gilbert to pick up product and bring it all back, then he went to bed for the rest of the day. my mom came over to watch the kids while i ran to the school to do the copy duty for kali's teacher. while i was gone tyson did one of those "explosion" poops for my mom. she said it was everywhere. on my way home from the school i got a call from trents teacher that he wanted to come home. trents uncle jeff shaved trents head a little too short than what we are used to and evidently the kids at school have been calling him names like baldy. if you know trent he is very worried about stuff like that. he didnt even want to go to school until his hair grew out. so on my way home i picked up trent and evidently right when trent walked into class a kid called him baldy and trent was said from then on out. his teacher was very mad at that kid and they had a big talk. then when i got home we were laughing at how the day has already gone and trent walks in the kitchen with cereal and drops it everywhere. at that point my mom and i just laughed. So we took trent and tyson to marys so my mom and i could run some errands. we had to go buy a new dishwasher and a new stroller. my dad broke my old stroller because he got so mad at it and smashed it down and it broke. it was a horrible stroller anyways. on our way to babies r us we stopped to mail some boxes for one of our accounts and after taking them into the store the worker said he didnt have the right paperwork for international shipping. so i loaded the boxes back in the car and all this while my mom was trying to get averi out of her seat because she is so spoiled and she was crying. she doesnt like it when trent is not back there with her. we actually got to babies and bought a stroller then Sears to get a dishwasher, yeah two things off the list and that was great. then we delivered hats and got a car wash. Then i zoomed home and left my mom to head to El Mirage to deliver shirts because Ricky was still in bed and they were expecting them. El Mirage is about 45 min. away at 2:30 on a Friday, not very fun. My mom ran and picked up Race and Kali and we met back home where ricky comes out and thankfully he was feeling much better. YEAH, he was back. He ran to KFC for dinner and then to Costco for groceries. We watched a new movie he picked up at Costco. The day ended great, but just started a little rough.

Ricky is an IRONMAN!!
April 13th 2008 Ricky became an Ironman. What an accomplishment. I am so proud of him. He did a great job. He loved it until about the last 8.5 miles of the run. He walked about 5 of those miles. He really wanted to quit. He felt a great accomplishment though and he was excited to finish. Monday he was very sore. He is still sore today. His feet and ankles are swollen. Now it is on to his EMT mid-term. Study Study time.
Here are some pics from the race:

Oh brother! What an Ironman team
They did it! All four have each become an IRONMAN. For Scotty and Derek, they can claim it twice. I am just too tired to relive all the details yet but they did make the paper! The East Valley Tribune did a story on them...

For one Valley family, the Ironman Arizona Triathlon was the culmination of a year of hard work and sacrifice.
Four men — two brothers and their brothers-in-law — were among the thousands competing in the 140-mile swimming, biking and running race that started at Tempe Town Lake early Sunday morning.
The men all decided to sign up for this year’s event after two of them, Scott Rogers and Derek Price, took part in the 2007 Ironman. They convinced Rick Rogers and Ricky Hanchett to join them for this year’s race.
“To have one member of your family try this race is one thing, but to have four in the same family is very unusual,” said Steve Rogers, father and father-in-law.
Although the conditions were not the best, the four were able to fight through to the finish line, pleased with their day’s effort.
“It was miserable,” said Rick Rogers, 32, laughing after he crossed the finish line followed by Hanchett about 13.5 hours after the race began.
The brothers had to deal with the Arizona heat, as well as increasingly powerful winds.
“It started out great,” said Price, 35, “but the conditions started pounding on us.”
Price said that although he didn’t break down physically, he felt mentally drained about halfway through the run. “There’s just this mental desire to stop.”
Scott Rogers, 24, said that he was happy with the day, despite falling short of the 10.5-hour mark he’d set for himself. He said that he suffered from bad lower-back and calf cramps and had to walk for six of the 26.2-mile running segment.
He and Price ended up finishing in a little more than 12 hours.
Kristen Rogers, wife of one of the racers, said the finish line scene was both chaotic and exhilarating, with more than 2,000 people converging at Tempe Beach to see the exhausted runners end the race.
The four men called themselves the Red 26 Tri Club. The name came from the color of the Ironman logo and iron’s atomic number on the periodic table of elements.
The men trained together for the event with long runs and bike rides about three times a week.
Steve Rogers said there were about 50 family members expected to show up in Tempe to support the team of four men dressed in black and red.
All but Rick Rogers are Gilbert residents; he lives in Phoenix.
The members of Red 26 Tri Club are planning to run together in the November Arizona Ironman as well.
“I’m excited,” said Scott Rogers. He said the wind and heat made Sunday’s race all the more difficult — and November’s all the more attractive.
The team also plans to bring the family patriarch with them in November.
“Next November’s Arizona Ironman will have me, the old man, join them,” said 57-year-old Steve Rogers, who said he’s already preparing to convert from a Red 26 fan to a full member.

ARIZONA IRONMAN April 2008
Next step
On wednesday Scott did his trade mark hair cut. Trent wanted in. Nice mo-hawks. The next step to the ironman was yesterday. it was packet pick up day. you go to tempe and walk around and check out all the athletes and check in. when you check in you receive your "packet". really it is a bag. in the bag are other bags that you fill with stuff that you might need during the race. then on race morning you turn in the bags to the different transition areas and they keep them for you for emergencies. for example you might want an extra shirt for the run because most likely your previous clothing will be drenched. in the bag is also your swim cap, a license plate border, your strap for your timing chip, official rules and instructions, and your bib number. there is also a sheet of stickers that has your number on it. these numbers are for you to put on your bags, your bike and your helmet. they want to be able to identify you.
Then last night was the dinner for the athletes and a presentation followed by the mandatory athlete meeting. I went with Ricky to this. It was fun to see the motivating movies and hear the stories of how people got to do this event and WHY they are doing it. One man there had lost 170 lbs. and was now participating in an ironman. that is incredible. there was the oldest athlete at 79. he was hilarious. evidently he does ironmans quite frequently and he rolls right in under the cut off time of 17 hours. THAT IS AMAZING!! Also yesterday you were able to make signs for your athletes and they will place them along the running trail for support. Here is one of Ricky that Kristen made for him. THANKS KRISTEN!
Today is prep day and bike check in. Get the bike, your bags, and backpack ready. it is also relax day. ricky is going to go check in his bike in tempe then head to his moms house. he is going to hang out there and spend the night out there too. we figured he could get more sleep and relaxing time being away. you never know what happens in this house in the middle of the night and I dont want him to have to get up 100 times with a child.
YEAH!! Rickys 1st ironman is now 1 day away. He is on the nervous side. the one amazing thing ricky can still do with all the nerves is HAVE FUN! He loves it. He will do great. I am so proud of him and this enormous accomplishment of discipline and determination. and to stay healthy! I LOVE THIS BOY!!

Averi/Tempe Fire
Averi rolled over again. she did it about a week and a half ago and didnt do it again but now she does it about once a day. she is better at it from tummy to back but she has gone both ways. uh oh my life is about to get crazier with another one that is mobile.
Ricky passed the Tempe Fireman Test. YEAH!! We are not sure the percentage he got because evidently it was a pass/fail sort of test. Who knows what happens next. I think he goes on a BIG wait list for interviews. Good job Ricardo!!

Rogers B-Day Bag Party/2.4 Swim
Last Sunday Ricky decided to participate in a 2.4 mile swim for preparation for the Ironman this Sunday. We screen-printed the shirts for the event so Ricky was able to get in free. He thought it might be a good idea to participate because he has only swam 2 times since the half ironman last October. The reason he has only swam two times is because of his limited time. He thought that if he focused more on the bike and run because that is majority of the race then he would probably be okay. Ricky is a pretty good swimmer so he knew he would finish the swim just not as fast as he would have liked if he had more time to practice. His goal time was 1 hr and 15 min and he came in at 1 hr and 10 min. so he felt that his decision was a good one. he now feels "okay" for the swim this Sunday. Ricky is way nervous for Sunday because if you havent heard it is supposed to be 96 degrees. YIKES. who does an ironman in that kind of heat??? I hope everyone is okay. That is a killer. When Ricky did the half ironman it was abnormally a hot day. cross your fingers a cold front moves in from nowhere.
Also last Sunday after the second session of conference, we went to Falcon Field for a Birthday Bag party for Rickys dads side of the family. It is always fun to see everyone. Everyone under the age of 21 gets a birthday bag. your bag is full of all kinds of goodies that people have brought to put in the bags. my kids love it. Ricky went up in one of his uncles airplanes too. that was really random but he said it was way cool. he loved it.

First Annual Mini Red 26 Tri
So today was the first annual mini triathlon for the Rogers grandkids. All the grandkids participated. It was so cute. Scott, Rickys youngest brother, put it all together. He mapped out the courses and bought cones and chalk to mark the path. Ellen, Holly and Summer made the awards. Kristen made the bibs and award certificates. We started at Heather and Dereks pool. Each kid, depending on their age did a few laps. Then we headed to the front yard and the bike course was mapped out through the neighborhood. Then the run loops were in the cul-de-sac at the end of Heather and Dereks street. We had an aid station and a finish line all ready. It was so planned out and it ran perfectly. Here are quite a few pics. As you can see they all had Red 26 shirts and hats.
